Meeting The Wife :: Shane D. Wilson

It doesn’t get more 90s than meeting your girlfriend because of copiers and fax machines.

Hear how two interns began the most convenient courtship in history.

My second or third day at Hummingbird, I met the girl who would become my wife because she worked at a booking agency two doors away on the same floor and they didn't have a copier and we didn't have a fax machine, so as an intern she was always coming in to make copies and I was always willing to send faxes.

“I knew that it happened around that. I was going to ask you that, but I didn't want to bring her into this.”

No, it's cool because eventually, as most good Nashville, I mean she's not from Nashville, but she'd been here a year... but as most good Nashville girls did back then, uh the way to ask a guy out was to see if he had a church yet, and I didn't. And she asked if I wanted to go to church, and I was like, “sure,” and she asked where to pick me up and we discovered that we lived two buildings apart at an apartment complex off of Briley and Elm Hill Pike. Thus began the most convenient courtship in history.

So anyway 16 months later, we were getting married. I was starting a job at Quad, which really pissed Kelly Privel off, the manager of Quad, because a week into my gig I had to ask for some time off for my honeymoon. And he was actually pissed. I'm like, “dude, it's my honeymoon, man. I didn't plan for your last guy to get fired in the midst of my marriage stuff” you know.
