What:
We’re assembling a public diary composed by artists and bands processing the world together in real-time. The three things we need from you, the contributor, are fairly simple:
A Song -
Song Choice- Write a new one, do a cover, or reach into your own catalogue and shine some fresh light onto an old idea. If the song helps you process this moment, it’s probably a good choice.
AV content- Record yourself as well as you can at home with whatever you’ve got. We’ll mix, sync the video, etc. Just capture, upload, and send us a download link (to dewey@homestylerecordings.com)!
A paragraph or few- Candidly speak into the moment. This is a collective, temporal, public diary entry... so be as real as you're willing. The spectrum of possibilities is wide.
Link(s) to point people your way- We want to make sure new listeners can find you easily!
Why:
Social, political, and medical unrest, coupled with heightened access to media, has impacted us in ways we will be untangling for years. This is an outlet to express your experiences and personal interpretation candidly; to do the work of an artist; to work through that process of untangling.
The world needs to hear from you! Unlike most, your expertise is to look around you and to articulate truth and beauty, sorrow and grief, anger and hope. Your art is a vehicle of plumbing the depths of the human experience. In a world of candy peddlers, we’re wanting to set out a richly prepared feast, but without pretense… Mr. Rogers in a sea of Saturday morning cartoons.
We’re also aiming for gritty, ‘low production value’ content to help strip away that pretense, as a way of saying “we’re all in this together.” We’re not selling anything, but instead, we’re giving away a slice of life.
When:
Ideally, we want you to complete your submission within two weeks of deciding to do it. We don’t want this to be burdensome or over-thought. We want your literal and figurative voice shine through into this moment.
Where:
Record these at home or someplace that serves as home for you right now.
How:
Capture the content and use a file sharing platform to send us your full quality recording
We’ll tidy up the video, load it up for release, and notify you about the release date
Help us share your entry with the world with a YouTube link, subscription, and/or social post.
Connect us with a friend or few who may also want to contribute to this project
When this content begins to generate revenue, we will split streaming revenue of these videos with the artists who make them, distributed monthly based on your video’s contribution to the channel’s revenue.
