An artists voice is synonymous to the bands sound. An analog vocal chain is synonymous to an engineers sound. Here, Russ shares his go to vocal chain and why it's stuck.
Well I would say my most common vocal chain these days is the Gordon mic pre which Gordon Instruments, a mic pre company in town, makes these amazing preamps. I just think it's the most amazing thing on vocals. I use the CL1B, the real thing, and the GML EQ and often a Distressor as well. I usually have CL1B and a Distressor and the GML. I also have a DBX which is the DSR 902, the DBX de-esser, I use that sometimes too if there's a sibilance problem which is not as big of a concern these days as it used to be because you can always fix that after the fact real easy. But if it's a huge annoying problem, I'll track through it.
