In music, how often do you get to complete a task in a day?
Shane likes to mow his grass. Nobody is a critic. It gets done in a day. And it symbolizes a deep sense of ownership that you don’t get from mixing.
I like to mow.
You're laughing... I'm totally serious. Seriously, okay you guys, how many of you guys make music for living all the time? When do you ever finish anything in a day? When I mow on Sunday during mowing season, I look over my shoulder and that grass looks good and nobody tweets texts or calls to tell me what to do differently the next time.
The most gratifying part of my year is getting to mow my lawn, and I was also raised in a trailer in Indiana, so it's kind of important for me to own a tiny little plot of land that I get to take care of... but more important than that is that it's mine, it's done in the day, and nobody tells me to change it, and every once in a while it even gets complimented.
So I look, I brew beer, I read, but yeah i don't listen to a lot of music. Sadly, but yeah, it's really important I think. And you know what, but that happened over time. I will say in the beginning as a young, eager guy, it was all that all the time. And I think that that's almost as important as aging into knowing that you need to step away from it a little bit, but yeah, hobbies are good.
