Vocal Chain Plugins :: Russ Long

February 1, 2021 Dewey Boyd

How do you get that perfect vocal chain? Hear Russ share about what his favorite plugs for vocals are.

A lot of guys have an exact thing they use every time, and I kind of jump around, but I mean a few of the… I use a lot of Universal Audio plug-ins, I use a lot of Waves plug-ins, and I use that Trident, um, I use the SoftTube... I use a lot of SoftTube stuff too. I use the Trident A-range as a global vocal shaping thing usually. I use Renaissance Vocal Compressor on vocals a lot. I use the SoftTube Cl1b on vocals a lot. I use those Q, the Waves, you know Q2, Q3, Q4 EQs on vocals a lot... usually which is not very much color but more to pull out just a problem thing, not to overall sonically shape the sound or give it character, but to pull out a problematic frequency or something.

I use the Universal Audio de-esser almost all the time. I mean that's the things I use more than anything, but I mean, like I said, I  jump around and use a bunch of different stuff.
